They are designed to help the child realise his/her own potential and attain functional skills in communication, mobility, social competence, cognition and self-care. EIPs are vital to enhance a child’s development, provide support and assistance to the family, reduce dependence on social welfare institutions and enable him/her to contribute to society. A Special Education Unit has been set up in the Education Department to meet this need. In addition, there are special schools for specific disabilities.
